A policeman (Spencer Tracy) falls in love with daughter (Joan Bennett) of a cafe owner, but things get complicated when her sister's (Marion Burns) ex-lover escapes from prison to join his brothers in a bank robbery that they get the sister involved in. This is a curious mix of a crime drama, a romance with some light comic moments. There are engaging performances from Spencer Tracy and Joan Bennett, but the recurring comic scenes with the drunk in the cafe are annoying.
