A young Jewish woman (Natalie Wood) is proposed to by her boyfriend but she is not sure that she loves him or wants to settle down. She goes to help at a camp with her friend (Carolyn Jones) and she meets aspiring director / dancer /singer (Gene Kelly) who encourages her theatrical aspirations.There then follows an on/off relationship between Gene Kelly and Natalie Wood despite the disapproval of her mother (Claire trevor). There is the a good performance from Natalie Wood as the innocent girl coming of age but the film starts well but looses its way in several places and drifts to a disappointing conclusion.
