At the end of the 19th century a financier tries to keep control of his household as his children find love and start to find ways of making money. The film consists of a series of stores relating to each of the family members. There are strong performances from William Powell and Irene Dunne as the father and mother of the family. There is good support from Elizabeth Taylor in one of her early films and from Zasu Pitts.
