In the silent era of films Dom Ameche is a studio prop boy who spots Alice Faye as an understudy who takes the lead role on Broadway. He starts producing slapstick films (featuring Buster Keaton and The Keystone Cops) and makes her a star. However as he spends all his time making films she falls for one of her leading men. This is late 1930's Hollywood looking back to the silent era and is a mixed bag of a film. The best scenes in the film are the slapstick silent recreations. Alice Faye does well with the material she has to work with, but this is not the best of her work.
