An overweight teenage girl in early 1960's America wants to appear on a local TV dance show and is encouraged by her coloured friends. Teen musical set against the background of racial integration. This is disappointing, despite the ability of John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and Christopher Walken. The cinematography and editing detract even further from the lack of plot and uninspiring musical numbers.
Remake of the earlier 1988 version that sparked a popular stage revival
