A racing driver is blamed for a crash at monaco that puts his team mate in hospital. He is given another chance to race and starts an affair with thee estranged wife of the other driver in the accident. Meanwhile a French driver starts an affair with an American woman. Ignore the romantic plot, although there are good performances from both Jessica Walter and Eva Marie Saint, this film is about the cars and the racing. This still rates as one of the best films dealing with Formula 1 raing. For 1966, the racing shots as the cars race around some of the great old style circuits of the 1960's are wonderful. For those used to watching F1 in the 2000's it is a reminder of the courage and dangers associated with grand Prix driving in the 1960's.
