A Russian army officer (Rudolph Valentino) is offered a promotion by the Czarina (Vilma Banky), he turns it down and flees home to find the family lands have been taken over by an unscrupilous neighbour. To get revenge he becomes a masked vigilante and attracts the daughter (Louise Dresser) of the neighbour when he pretends to be her French teacher. This is a mix of adventure and romance that made Rudolph Valentino a major star.
