A young woman (Carol White) gets a job as housekeeper to an older farmer (John Mills) and becomes friendly with him when she discovers he is actually wealthy despite the farm being run down. Things get complicated when she falls for the gamekeeper (Stuart Wilson) of the next door estate There are good performances from John Mills as the the lonely old farmer and Carol White as the young woman caught between love and money from the two men in her life. The film is based on the novel by H E Bates.
