Glenn Close and John Malkovich are a pair of French aristocrats who play sexual politics with each other and others within their circle of acquaintances. Glenn Close challenges him to seduce the virgin Uma Thurman but he is distracted by Michelle Pfeiffer. A well acted and produced period drama with a fine cast of leading and supporting actors that is well produced to give the appearance of France in the late 1700's. It is well directed by Stepehn Frears who also manages to work with some underlying humour against all the intrigue. The film is baed on the FRench novel by Choderlos de Laclos.
