A woman (Joan Crawford) is having an affair with a married man (Dana Andrews). When it seems that he will never leave his wife (Ruth Warrick) and children she meets and marries widowed war veteran (Henry Fonda). The four protagonists have to deal with their feelings and their relationships. Despite the fact that Joan crawford is having an affair with a married man she does manage to give te character a sympathetic feel. There is also a good performance from Dana Andrews as the married man otrn between his lover and his family.
