A man arrives in town to help run a saw mill, but under a different name as his in-law had a bad rteputation in the town. He meets and marries an orphan girl, but there are people in the town and in his past that want to destroy him. It does get convoluted and rather melodramatic, but it does get across all the various emotions of the characters for a film made at this time and the limitations of silent films. It does have a nice climax of the hero being rescued from being sawn in two.
