When three whales get trapped under the ice in Alaska, the local news reporter and his Greenpeace ex-girlfriend break the story. The press and television pick up the story and soon a strange coalition of native alaskans, environmentalists, big oil companies, American politicians and finally a Russian icebreaker come together to save the whales.This is a family film but still manages to show something of the complexities and competeing interests in the situation. This is not the best performance from Drew barrymore, but that is largely because her character is too preachy rather than being sympathetic.
