Comment/Synopsis Towards the end of the American civil war a Yankee soldier is taken in by by a Southern school mistress and her five girls and the inevitable sexual tensions arise. Clint Eastwood gives a good performance as the soldier manipulating innocent women who are exploring their sexuality. This is supported well by the female actors including Geraldine Page and Jo Ann Harris. Under Don Siegel's direction the film is explicit in the sexuality and the manipulation by both Clint Eastwood and some of the women. This was made at the height of the success of the Clint Eastwood / Don Siegel combination in the same year they made Dirty Harry. This is much better than the insipid 2017 remake.
