Comment
The story of the poor Becky Sharp who works her way into the family of her school friend, schemes her way through life against the background of the campaign against Napoleon at Waterloo and her rise and fall through society. The transition from book to screen means significant loss of plot and subtlety in the characters, but the flaws in the various characters still come through. Miriam Hopkins gives a good performance in the lead role and there are supporting roles from a number of well known British actors of the time. The film is notable for being the first feature film that was filmed in 3 strip Technicolour.
