A woman (Helen Chandler) is on trial for murdering her husbands (Leon Ames) ex-wife (Charlotte Merriam) . How she got there is told as a flash back. A man marries a woman who is only after his money. She sets him up with an innocent woman to get a divorce and claim the alimony. His ex-wife bleeds him for money, whilst he marries the woman used to get the divorce. leon Ames is the gullible man at the centre of the plot whose character is a bit bland. It is the performance of Helen Chandler that carries the film as she goes from the inncent deperate for a few dollars to the wife prepared to up everything for the husband she loves. Charlotte Merriam is suitable catty as the ex-wife and Alberta Vaughn gives some light relief as her friend. There is a nice little cameo from Blanche Friderici as the snooty client. Whilst there is no great depth to the plot, the strength of the film is the characters who engage the viewer emotionally. Whilst not a classic film, this is better than most films from the early 1930's.
