Dustin Hoffman came to fame in the Graduate and has subsequently shown his talents in a whole variety of various styles of film. He started working in the theatre and in the early 1960's appeared in several television series. He studied the method style of acting at the Actors Studio. His first film role was a small role in The Tiger Makes Out. His next film was The Graduate, one of his biggest films and for which he was Oscar nominated. He was a very different style of leading man. His next major role was in John Schlesinger's film Midnight Cowboy, a very different style of film but one that also earned him a second Oscar nomination. He followed this with Sam Peckinpah's Straw Dogs, a controversial film due to its violence. In 1973 he starred alongside Steve McQueen in Papillon. He played another controversial character in Leeny and got another Oscar nomination. All The Presidents Men was the exposure of the Watergate scandal.
In Marathon Man he worked again with director John Schlesinger and also opposite Laurence Olivier. With Kramer vs Kramer he is a very different character opposite Meryl Streep and a role for which he won the best actor Oscar. His next major film role was in the comedy Tootsie where he impersonated a woman and had another Oscar nomination. After time in the theatre he returned to film alongside Tom Cruise in Barry Levinson's Rain Man, for which he won his second Oscar. After Dick Tracy he stared in Steven Spielberg's Hook and then after another break from films in Outbreak. Sleepers reunites Dustin Hoffman with Barry Levinson and again with him in Wag The Dog and then in Sphere. Finding Neverland was a return to the Peter Pan Story. In the 2000's he appeared in a range of films of which the best was Last Chance Harvey made in Britain with Emma Thompson.
