Career / Biography

Rex Harrison is a British actor best remembered for his role in the film version of My Fair Lady. He had a long career on both the stage and in films both in Britain and in America. He was the quintessential English gentleman in both dramatic and comic roles. He was married six times and was having an affair with Carole Landis when she committed suicide. He started acting on the stage as a teenager and then progressed to the West End. His first film role was in The Great Game. His first staring role was in Alexander Korda's Storm In A Teacup. He team up again with Vivien Leigh in St Martin's Lane. Critical acclaim came to him with Major Barbara where he developed the charming personality, that was filmed during during the Blitz. After the war he stared in the Noel Coward / David Lean production of Blithe Spirit which showed his skill as light character comedy. He was then given a contract with 20th Century Fox in Hollywood where he made Anna And The King Of Siam and The Ghost And Mrs Muir which were both popular at the box office. He then returned to the stage and stared in My Fair Lady. He returned to films and was Oscar nominated for his role in Cleopatra. In 1964 he stared in the film version of the musical My Fair Lady which is the film he bis best known for and for which he won his Best Actor Oscar. Agony And The Ecstasy was a different style being dramatic rather than comedy. His later carer after Doctor Dolittle was mainly on stage. He was married six times including Lilli Palmer and Kay Kendall and Rachel Roberts. He was having an affair with Carole Landis when she committed suicide.
